As a new father, Kevin is feeling so inspired to start new traditions. This year we celebrated the 5th annual Harvest Supper-- A Thanksgiving dinner with all our Virginia friends. This year Kevin was bound and determined to cook the turkey. See, each year we have ordered a turkey from honey baked ham and focused our culinary skills on preparing delicious sides and desserts. Not this year. Kevin channeled his Alton Brown and, in-between soothing a colicky baby and talking mommy off the ledge of sleep-deprivation; he brined and baked one of the most delicious turkeys. We arrived at Kerri’s house with a dangerously secured turkey (positioned under the baby’s car seat no less), a screaming baby, 2 baby bags, 14 diapers, a white noise machine and a baby swing.
Harvest Supper is one of my favorite fall traditions. We plan ahead, act like “grown ups,” set the fine china, and celebrate all we have to be thankful for. This year, Kevin and I took an extra helping of thankfulness. A year ago, we were nursing broken hearts after a very sad miscarriage. Little did we know the amazing gift in store for us. Despite the colic and sleepless nights, our cups were full-- full of thanks and joy. And we are thankful for the friends that surrounded us that night; the ones who picked us up off the floor and put us together again, the ones to cheered us on through my pregnancy, and the ones who celebrated the birth of our perfect boy. We are blessed to have such a great group of friends. Cheers.
