This is our story. It might not be exciting to some, but we think it is THRILLING... most of the time. Life is flying by too fast and this is our attempt to stop and capture the good nuggets in our lives. You may notice a trend in these posts... it may have to do with our favorite little nuggets currently sitting center stage in everything we do, think, and live.

Hope you enjoy and leave a comment or two!

Welcome to the world Chase Matthew Homan

Baby Homan’s birthday

This is it! Go time! Of course I was ready, I was ready three days ago when the doctor's scheduled our C-section. Out the door we went at 5:00AM. We got to the Birthing Inn at 5:15 (early as usual). We walked straight into triage and before we knew it (or could snap a decent picture) I was headed to surgery.

After a couple "extra minutes" trying to get my anesthesia right (let's just say I wasn't quite numb), daddy-to-be, and my most amazing man, joined me in the OR and the doctors got to work. I was so nervous with anticipation. Honestly, I still held on to a little fear that something could go wrong. This moment needed to be perfect and so I pushed the fear back and held Kevin's hand tight. I concentrated on those hazel eyes peeking out from above his mask and smiled.  Despite some very obvious pain (remember the not quite numb comment), my adrenaline took over. I was about to meet the baby that would make my life complete.

Kevin and I didn’t have much time to chat because on September 2, 2010 at 8:22AM our 8lbs 11oz (21 inches) baby boy came into this world. He didn’t scream but let us know his lungs were healthy. It took us just a second to decide on a name. Chase Matthew Homan. I saw him come up from above the curtain and he was pink and perfect. Kevin joined the nurses while they quickly cleaned him up and then he brought our son over to meet his momma. And I cried. I remember saying, "happy birthday, happy birthday baby boy, I love you" over and over. Happy tears and smiles. So many smiles. Laughing and kissing. I remember Kevin's face so close to mine and our heat together enveloped our baby. He was perfect gift from God. It was a long journey and absolutely worth it.

Happy Birthday Chase.  It is a pleasure to meet you.

Daddy was proud of you and showed you off to everyone he saw.

The nurses gave Chase a thumbs up and we snapped our first picture. I couldn't get my arms around my new little guy as they were strapped to the table, but I examined every inch and covered his sweet new face with a million kisses. Daddy went with Chase for his first bath while I got all fixed up.

Chase instantly took after his momma sleeping with his arms straight above his head.

I woke up in recovery and probably asked 3,700 times in 5 minutes if I could go see Kevin and Chase. It felt amazing to have a name, to know we had a son. I couldn't stop saying his name. I needed to be with them, to celebrate our boy. We delivered during the blizzard baby boom (all the pregnancies from the blizzards of Winter ‘09) so the nurse was working hard to get us a room.

The nicest nurse moved me to upstairs and moments after I got into my new room, my baby and husband joined me. Pure love. Unbelievable. There are no words to describe it. Those moments were both a blur and etched in my memory forever. We couldn’t stop repeating “he’s perfect, he’s perfect.” Kevin had already texted everyone the good news and I was starting to get loving congratulatory phone calls. We also sent some pictures to the patiently waiting grandparents and other family.

We spent the rest of the day enamored by our perfect, amazing, sweet little boy. He had the cutest wrinkle on his nose and deep blue eyes that peeked out in slivers teasing us with all the goodness to come. Grandtudy was the first visitor to arrive that evening, followed closely by Gramps and Grandma and Grandpa. We passed the baby around and all agreed how perfect he was. The room was so warm with love. Pure love.

Over the following days we had many visitors including our friends Morgan Richard, Kristin Furst, Kerri Novoshelski, Mike Carroll and Amanda Logsdon. I loved seeing our friends pass our baby around, welcoming him to the world had wrapping him in love. I was so determined to recover quickly that I was in my cardigan and yoga pants hours after delivery. I was feeling so good and moving around so well that my nurse for the second night thought I was a new nurse and not the patient!! HA!

Chase's arrival meant we had to miss our friends' wedding. But we made sure to send them well wishes.  From our big day to theirs!

Chase attended his first Penn State game while in the hospital.  Luckily he had the perfect outfit to cheer on the Nittany Lions!

After a little extended stay because Chase needed to regain some weight, we headed home to be greeted by Roxie, Grandtudy, Gramps, Grandma, and Grandpa. That first car ride with Chase was so scary. We were not fully responsible for the care of this tiny human being. Kevin drove about 5 miles an hour the 3 miles home to the house.

I think Roxie thought Chase was staying for a few hours. Here she is wondering when we are taking him back!

The grandparents stayed through the holiday weekend and kissed their set baby grandson goodbye, promising to visit soon.  Grantudy is staying for another week to help out (happy dance).
