Three years old?!?!!! How did this happen. How did we get here? OK, here comes the tears. I can't help it.
What a wild ride this has been. This boy has my heart.
This is the first year Chase really understood the idea of a birthday, so we wanted to make it extra special.
He got everything he asked for, "firefighter light shoes (red light-up shoes), a crispy (frisbee), a flashlight, and a "vengers costume" (Avengers pajamas... specifically "Captain American"). Also, grabbed a $2 foam rocket which has become a solid favorite toy already! Good thing I told him it was from Whitney since he thanked her multiple times throughout the day and even offered it to her to play with! What a nice big brother!
We decorated his room while he slept... for a little surprise in the morning. He loved it and told us a "a car probably 'bought the balloons"(??)
We spent the day just enjoying everything about him.
Dear Chase,
Today we woke up as parents of a three-year-old! Happy Birthday to our "bud." Who would have known when we named you Chase three years ago, that it was a foreshadowing of the years to come. Your favorite thing to do is MOVE. Running, jumping, squirming, slithering, stomping, bounding... even your mouth never stop moving. You are everything a "boy" could be.
We are in awe of your language ability. You started talking early and never stopped. Your vocabulary is that of a 6 year old. It is so fun to have conversations with you about the cloud animals you see on the ride home from Nana, or the dreams you had, or getting to spend some time in your imaginative play. I could listen to you talk – and actually do listen to you talk – all.
day. long. You are a huge chatterbox (who do you get that from?!). I love your running commentary
and insight into our world and constantly wish I could just have a
running recording of all of the wise, hilarious, and loving things that
seem to come out of your mouth at breakneck speed. Your intellect amazes us on a daily basis, and we love your curiosity and obsession with learning.
You are an amazing brother – you embraced this major life
change with all that you had. I had so many fears that you would struggle with a sibling. But I am thrilled that you proved us wrong. We have never see a moment of jealously in Whitney's first 6 months so far. You are kind to her, asking us to make sure she participates in your activities, providing her your toys to play with, sharing in your moments of fun, reading her books. I have been so proud of how much room you have made in
your heart for her. I will forever be grateful for those 2.5 years I
had to focus on you and only you, but I have also loved watching you
flourish as your role in our family has evolved.
You are headstrong and firm in your ways. You won't go anywhere without socks-- even in the midst of summer, and wearing sandals (cringe!). You insist on wearing your underwear backwards so you can see the big character in the front. You need your milk and graham cracker first thing in the morning or the earth might fall from its axis.
Your big heart, thoughtful ways, and amazingly creative imagination
stand out in everything you do. You tell wonderful stories, love being
told stories, and continue to love books. Your favorite things in the
world are cars and trucks (especially construction vehicles and race cars).
As big as you're getting, I know you are still little. When you throw tantrums, your mouth
contorts into your signature cry-face that is simultaneously horrible
and hilarious. You need patience when you hear loud sounds and sometimes lose your "big boy" mentality.
I can't believe that you are three years old. I know it's a cliche, but
time has really flown since you were born. I know you are still little,
still a baby to me, but I want you to know that I will always support you. I will be always there for you. I will ALWAYS love
you. No matter what you go through...how much you hate me when you are a
teenager...or how lonely or down you may feel...I want you to always
remember this. You are my everything, Chase, and you will always be my baby.
Love, mommy and daddy
