There are a lot of things changing around here. I am back to work and Chase just started at daycare. There are also a lot of things not changing around here, like....reflux meds, crying, round the clock nursing, fussing, fussing, and fussing. It has been quite a week. It has been a very difficult adjustment as I expected. And honestly, we already love our daycare so much that we are afraid Chase will scare them away with all his crying.
Grantudy came down for the weekend to help. And it did. It was a nice relief, and it helped to calm my mommy nerves and worries.
He is just not a happy guy and it breaks my heart. Nana (or daycare lady), seems so unfazed by the unhappy little boy which brings me some comfort that for all his fussing, some of it is normal. but i am just so torn. I feel guilty for going to work and leaving him (and gasp, actually enjoying the time away), but I just need a break too. And I am not ashamed to admit it (ok, I am ashamed to admit it, but I keep telling myself it is supposed to be ok). I also feel so guilty for leaving him when I know he is tired of all the colic. He isn't sleeping well, and with the new routine and separation, all he wants to do is nurse when I get home and it is exhausting! I am just one hormonal mess.
Otherwise, we think Chase like daycare and we hope they like him. It is impossibly hard to leave your precious child with a stranger, but for some reason, Nana doesn't feel like a stranger. She is so loving and gentle with me. She knows the new mommie routine so well and can almost predict and compensate for my worries and needs. Like today she texted me an adorable picture of him (for their Christmas card) right when I needed it the most.
With the change in season comes Chase's first Christmas. So as good new parents we took him to meet Santa. The line was long and luckily Chase slept through it, until it was time to sit in Santa's lap. Our spicy little nugget clearly let us know there would be no Santa sitting until he has a snack, so the nice elves at the north pole let us step aside in line and I did what every good mommy would do.... whipped it out and nursed him right there (under a cover of course) in the middle of the mall between Santa's big chair and a bucket of candy canes.
After a nice refreshing snack. Chase sat like a perfect angel on Santa's big lap and all together we wished for Colic to go away .... and maybe for 8 hours of consecutive sleep;). It was a good day and made my little mommy heart explode with joy. Baby's first Christmas bucket list is quickly getting checked off!
